In a momentous flag-raising ceremony held Monday morning, Acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II formally introduced the members of the 21st Davao City Council, reaffirming the collective commitment to principled leadership, integrity, and service to the people of Davao.
In his message delivered before city officials and employees, Rigo Duterte highlighted the essence of public service as a noble pursuit—one that demands not just competence and accountability, but also compassion and unity.
“Public service encompasses not only providing effective and equitable services to our fellow Dabawenyos, but also performing our functions with integrity and honesty,” he said.
He recognized the legacy of good governance in Davao City and called on the new council to continue that tradition, stressing that whether elected or appointed, public servants are entrusted with the task of improving the lives of all constituents.
The young acting vice mayor reminded the members of the council that their positions come with great responsibility and the public’s trust. “May we use our position in the council to address pressing issues in our city; to extend a helping hand to our people; and to plan and offer a better and brighter tomorrow for the future generation,” he urged.
Acknowledging the full support of Acting City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte, the acting vice mayor encouraged the council to serve with “pride, compassion, and fair respect,” and expressed gratitude to all city employees for their continued service to the Dabawenyo people. He concluded the message with a powerful call for unity.
“Let us aim for a progressive Davao and not allow our differences in political beliefs overpower the love and peace that we have long shared in our city.”
The message set the tone for the council’s new term—one rooted in service, grounded in legacy, and united in purpose.
