City Gov't Brings Joy and Hope through Mass Wedding for 38 Couples in Davao
5/6/26, 4:00 AM
Love, commitment, and new beginnings filled the air as 38 couples from Barangays 21, 22, and 23-C officially exchanged vows during the “Kasalan ng Barangay 2026” held in Davao City.
The mass wedding ceremony, organized by the City Civil Registrar’s Office, gave couples the opportunity to finally formalize their unions through free civil wedding services provided by the city government.
For many of the newlyweds, it was more than just a ceremony—it was the fulfillment of a long-awaited dream to begin married life with dignity, legal recognition, and the blessings of family and community. Some couples had already spent years building lives together and raising children, while others looked forward to starting a new chapter as husband and wife.

Smiles, tears, and heartfelt embraces filled the venue as loved ones witnessed the couples say “I do.” Acting Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II led the ceremony and shared a message reminding the couples that marriage is built not only on love, but also on patience, understanding, sacrifice, and unity through life’s challenges. He encouraged the newlyweds to continue choosing each other every day, especially during difficult moments, and to build homes grounded on mutual respect and strong family values.
The initiative forms part of the city government’s continuing efforts to strengthen Filipino families and make civil services more accessible to ordinary Dabawenyos. By removing financial barriers to marriage registration and ceremonies, the program allows couples to focus on what truly matters—their commitment to one another.
To help the couples begin their married lives, the city government also distributed groceries, kitchenware, and financial assistance. The simple gifts brought additional joy and gratitude among the newlyweds, many of whom expressed appreciation for the support extended by the local government.
More than a government program, the “Kasalan ng Barangay” became a celebration of love, hope, and family—reminding everyone present that even in simple ceremonies, some of life’s most meaningful moments are created.
