DAVAO CITY – The offices of Davao City First District Rep. Paolo Duterte and Vice Mayor Rigo Duterte extended relief assistance on Monday, May 18, to hundreds of residents affected by recent flooding and fire incidents in the city.

At least 310 individuals affected by flooding in Barangay 2-A received hot rice porridge, locally known as lugaw, from the offices of the two officials.

The food assistance was distributed to residents of Purok 1, Purok 2, and Purok 3 after floodwaters inundated portions of the community following heavy rains on Sunday evening, May 17.

According to Rep. Duterte’s office, the distribution of hot meals formed part of their immediate response efforts for residents displaced by the flooding while authorities continued monitoring conditions in affected areas.

Meanwhile, hundreds of families displaced by the massive fire in Barangay 23-C earlier this month also continued receiving assistance from the offices of the two local officials.

Vice Mayor Duterte personally led the distribution of food packs, water containers, and PZD Kits containing blankets, undergarments, and other essential items intended to help affected families recover from the incident.

The ongoing relief operations form part of the continuing assistance efforts for residents affected by the fire that struck Barangay 23-C along Quezon Boulevard.

Based on the latest figures from local authorities, at least 466 families were affected by the fire, with 423 families already receiving aid assistance from the Duterte offices.

The fire reportedly broke out around 8 p.m. in the densely populated coastal community covering Purok 4D–Mini Forest and Purok 5–Isla Verde before escalating to a fourth alarm.

Initial reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection showed that around 150 houses were destroyed after the flames rapidly spread through structures mostly made of light materials.

Authorities continue to monitor affected communities as residents recover from the aftermath of the flooding and recent fire incident.
